Canadian astronaut Chris Hadfield can enjoy a taste of home while he and the crew of the International Space Station orbit Earth, some 250 miles above us.

Canadian honey is currently with Chris Hadfield during his mission to the International Space Station.

In August 2012, the Canadian Space Agency selected the Honibe Honey Drop as one of its ‘Snacks For Space’ and the Honey Drop is currently on the International Space Station with Canadian Commander Chris Hadfield.

The Honibe Honey Drop is an individual serving or one teaspoon of 100 per cent pure dried honey without any additives.

It is ideal for sweetening tea, coffee or any hot beverage and is available in 12 count packages for easy transport in pockets, cars, briefcases or purses or space stations.

The Honibe Honey Drop will be used as a portable snack for the astronauts during their rigorous activities during their mission at the International Space Station.

“Our goal as a Canadian health food company is to provide nutritional convenient alternatives to our consumers,” said John Rowe, President and CEO of Island Abbey Foods Ltd.

“We are proud to be able to provide the members of Commander Hadfield’s team with our Honey Drop as a great source of nutrition and energy in space. The entire Honibe team is very excited to have our Honey Drop blast-off into Canadian space exploration history alongside Commander Chris Hadfield and the Expedition 35 Crew.”

Canadian astronaut Chris Hadfield launched into space on December 19, and will live and work for five months as part of the crew of Expedition 34/35 on the International Space Station. He is the first Canadian to command a space mission.

Island Abbey Foods flagship brand Honibe has seen huge growth and recognition in the last few years.

The Honibe Honey Drop achieved the most prestigious food award in the world at SIAL Paris 2010, the Global SIAL d’Or (Gold Medal) which recognized the Honibe Honey Drop as “The Best New Food Product in the World.”

Honibe was subsequently honoured with the “Canada Brand Business Award” at SIAL (Toronto) in 2011. Honibe was also featured on one of Canada’s most popular television shows, CBC’s Dragons’ Den, where entrepreneurs pitch their ideas to savvy business investors.
